Purchasing Manager
My client in Durban seeks a Purchasing Manager to ensure a reliable and cost effective supply and demand of materials by means of effective planning, co-ordination and communication by integrating supply chain and purchasing activities.
The ideal candidate will have / be:
- A degree / diploma in Purchasing and / or Supply Chain Management or an equivalent qualification
- Computer literate – Advanced MS Excel would be an added advantage
- Working knowledge of SAP/R3 or other MRP Systems
- Numerate and logical
- Good communication, strong negotiation and presentation skills
- Pro-active approach to problem solving
The successful candidate will be required to carry out the following tasks:
Key performance areas:
- Is accountable for and manage the procurement process and the procurement of all materials
- Provide clear strategic guidelines and measureable objectives for the Purchasing Department
- Manage the overdue PO’s, shipment notifications and the purchase requisition process
- Provide regular and ad-hoc statistics related to comparative pricing, price increases, storage / shipping costs, etc
- Establish and report on monthly raw material and non-raw material cost savings
- Reduce slow moving materials and air-freights, and engage in stock exchange programs as required
- Manage material master data in SAP to accurately reflect the needs of the business in line with requirements of planning systems
- Manage and maintain the PIR database, together with the consumables catalogue
- Co-ordinate with commercial, technical, production and purchasing resources to establish materials requirements
- Support the demand planning meetings as and when necessary, both locally and internationally
- Manage supplier enquiries, queries and contracts timeously and encourage supplier participation
- Manage the work flow price query process
- Continuous review of “Best Practices” in Supply Chain and Purchasing

- Commit fully to ISO procedures and systems
- Promote compliance with company systems and procedures
- Contribute to accurate maintenance of data
Salary - R20 000 - R25 000
