Here at RMS Staffing, our focus as a company goes far beyond recruitment; we also aim to better the lives of those within our community. This year, RMS Staffing is aligning itself with the Jes Foord Foundation in order to further their cause in the fight against rape in South Africa.
The Jes Foord Foundation (JFF) is a KZN-based organisation that strives to assist victims of rape, and raise awareness about it throughout South Africa. When their founder, Jes Foord, was gang raped by four men in 2008, she made the decision that she would not allow such a horrific event to govern her life. Jes refused to remain silent about her trauma and began to pave the way for other victims of rape to speak out, seek help, and redefine themselves as “survivors” rather than “victims”. Through educational talks and various support programmes, the JFF embodies its founder’s goals to enlighten South Africa.
To date, the JFF runs a number of projects, including The Handbag Project, and offers services such as free rape/trauma counselling for survivors, as well as for affected family members. Grounded by three pillars (Awareness, Support, and Education), the Foundation provides invaluable information about the rape culture within South Africa, what to do and where to go if you or someone you know is raped, and what you can do to support survivors.
RMS Staffing has pledged its support to the JFF and will be sponsoring a T Box at the JFF Annual Golf Day (31 May 2019), as well as organizing collection drives for various items for The Handbag Project throughout the year.
This month, we ask our clients to donate coloured pencils or crayons to the cause. This item will go into a Kiddie Pack, which consists of a backpack filled with essentials and comforts for children under 12 who have been raped. Since 60% of the bags sent out for The Handbag Project are for children, we ask that as many donations as possible be made. Drop-off locations are listed below, and RMS Staffing is more than happy to collect donations from Durban offices on the 15 to 17 of April2019. If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, please see the link listed below.
Let’s work together and pay it forward!
